Derek Piquette is a dancer, director, choreographer, and teacher who began dancing at age 10 in Chicopee, MA. By 16, he earned full scholarships for ballet intensives and won several national titles. Derek moved to Miami to pursue his dream, training over 50 hours a week.
In 2015, Derek competed on So You Think You Can Dance Season 12, finishing in the top 4 “Stage” dancers, and toured with the show across 70 cities in the U.S. and Canada. In 2017, he starred as the “Trickster” in Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA, performing across multiple countries. Derek later competed as a finalist on NBC’s World of Dance Season 3.
In 2019, he choreographed and danced in Netflix’s Work It and Julie and the Phantoms, and choreographed for Jennifer Lopez’s It’s My Party Tour. He also worked on Schmigadoon for Apple+ TV and Scaredy Cats for Netflix.
As a teacher and choreographer, Derek has taught at over 200 studios worldwide and choreographed over 450 award-winning pieces, including for Dance Moms, So You Think You Can Dance, and World of Dance. He is currently teaching for On the Floor: The Ultimate Dance Experience and has raised over $350,000 for SickKids Hospital.
Derek also launched the Intrepid Dance Company’s Post Secondary Training Program in 2019 and directed two professional shows, Her and Tempus. He remains dedicated to inspiring and mentoring young dancers worldwide.
